Police are investigating after a graffiti attack on a car in Stroud, with other vehicles said to have been targeted too.

A woman’s car, parked in an alleyway off Lansdown, was covered in graffiti overnight, with crude drawings and swear words sprayed on.

Owner Annabell Walker, who lives above the Galgos Latino restaurant in Gloucester Road (formerly The Greyhound Inn), awoke this morning to discover the damage to her Peugoet 306.

“It’s just shocking, isnt it?” said Ms Walker, a local charity worker. “It’s embarrassing having that on my car. I can’t go to work and my 13-year-old son had to see it.”

Ms Walker found the graffiti at 8.10am when she arrived at her car. It is not known when the vandalism took place.

PC Damian Brogan of Stroud Police attended to speak to Ms Walker and investigate the vandalism.

“It’s frightening for Ms Walker to have had her car attacked in such an offensive way,” he said.

“They haven’t given any thought to the associated costs for Ms Walker or for the council in cleaning up the paint on the wall or park bench.”

The Christian Science church has also been targeted with paint strewn across its front and windows.

Across the road, two large Nazi swastikas have been drawn on the Cotswold stone wall. A bench in neighbouring Bank Gardens has also been targeted.

At least Ms Walker could see some humour in the attack: “The Romans used to graffitti phalluses as they believed it brought them good luck, but that’s no excuse.”

“More than anything, Stroud needs to get a handle on its graffitti problem.”

PC Brogan advised that the council had been informed and will be arriving within the hour to clean up the graffiti.

It is believed that other cars, parked in Lansdown and Gloucester Street, were also targeted.

The crime reference number is incident 76 of June 26.
