A hedgehog had to be rescued after it wandered onto the tracks at Stonehouse train station last night.

The animal was rescued by a British Transport Police officer and fortunately was unharmed.

A statement on the Wild Hogs Hedgehog Rescue Facebook page read: “The hedgehog was safely rescued from between the train tracks.

“It must have been terrifying for the poor little guy with trains thundering over him.

“Thankfully we managed to find Transport PC Lewis on one of the trains that stopped over the hog and he checked when the next train was coming before jumping on to the tracks and scooping the little hedgehog into the net.

“The hog is now tucked up in a warm bed with soup and water, and despite being dehydrated, very cold and hungry, appears to be none the worse for his ordeal.”
