The Easter weekend has been made a little bit sweeter for some of the county’s key workers and the people they care for thanks to the team at Highfield Garden World in Whitminster.

Staff at hospitals, care homes and more in Stroud, Gloucester and Dursley have been visited by some of the Highfield team after the garden centre decided to donate all of its Easter treats to local good causes.

The popular garden centre is visited by around 20,000 customers a week, but was forced to close its doors to the public when the Covid-19 lockdown came into effect.

The Highfield team decided to spread some Easter cheer across the area.

Four members of staff, Jon, Donna, Barb and Abbie, volunteered to deliver chocolate eggs, bunnies, biscuits and cakes to more than 10 different good causes including Vale Hospital in Dursley, Stroud Maternity Hospital, Stroud District Foodbank, Cotswold House Care Home, Scarlet House Care Home, the Orders of St John Care Trust in Gloucester, the Cirencester Group NHS, Home Farm Trust and Lakefield Primary School in Frampton-on-Severn.

Director Tim Greenway said: “We thought some of the county’s amazing key workers might appreciate a little Easter treat.

“These are strange times, and those key workers are helping us all get through them.

This was just a little thank you from Highfield to them.”
