The Double Red Duke hotel in the Cotswolds recently opened – here’s a look inside.
A 17th-century coaching inn, with 19 rooms and a contemporary restaurant, it is located in the picturesque village of Clanfield, near Bampton.
It is part of the Country Creatures family of pubs and inns, with other establishments including The Chequers in Churchill, and The Swan in Ascott-under-Wychwood.
The Double Red Duke features 19 individually designed bedrooms.
Informal and luxurious, they boast plush mattresses, roll top baths and 100 Acre apothecary products.
Downstairs in the dining room, the Double Red Duke has teamed up with Hawksmoor’s Richard Turner to create a hearty menu with an emphasis on open-fire cooking on rotisseries and a wood-fired grill.
Signatures on the menu include milk and honey lamb chops with pea and haggis salad, spit roast turbot with lemon ketchup, grilled rose veal chop, fried oysters and egg tartar and cheese and onion tart tatin.
Sunday lunch features saddle of lamb, spit roast porchetta, and prime rib of beef, or there is the option to try a bit of everything for the table to share.
A shepherd’s hut treatment room is set to be launched at the venue later in the year.
Rooms start from £120 per night.
