Police were called at 8.45am to a report that four vehicles had collided on the Cirencester bound carriageway.
The closure is in place to allow for those involved to be assessed by paramedics and recovery of the vehicles.
Emergency services remain at the scene with motorists asked to plan ahead and avoid the area if possible.
