A driver has died after apparently careering off the M5 motorway down an embankment.
The southbound carriageway between junctions 10 and 11, near Gloucester, was closed after the car was spotted shortly before 05:30 BST.
Gloucestershire Police said the man died at the scene, after it was believed he crashed late on Wednesday.
The incident led to the section of motorway being closed for over eight hours, reopening shortly before 2.30pm
A police spokesman said another driver reported a small silver hatchback car down an embankment about a mile south of junction 10 for Cheltenham.
They said they believed the car got on the M5 at junction 4A at Bromsgrove and travelled down the M5 between 22:30 BST and 23:30 BST on Wednesday.
Police said nobody else was in the vehicle, and inquiries were ongoing to identify the man’s next of kin.
Officers have asked motorists with dash cam footage to get in touch.
