A musical staple in the town of Malmesbury is set to be perform at this year’s Carnival for the first time.
The Malmesbury Concert Band will be playing at the procession on Saturday, September 2.
They will be by the entrance of the Old Bell Hotel from 5.45pm–6.15 pm, when the procession is expected to pass, before pausing in the town centre and returning down Abbey Row.
The band will be playing a selection of popular numbers, including James Bond film themes and songs from musicals such as West Side Story and Chicago.
Musical director Art Robb said: “This will be the first time we will have played at the Carnival procession – a huge privilege – and something we hope may become an annual event.”
The band, which has been part of the community for over 150 years, has 26 members who play woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.
They perform all kinds of music from popular and classical to original wind band music.
