The sun shone down as Malmesbury Against Plastic held its first plastic free picnic.

The campaign group who are fighting plastic use in the town hosted the event with thanks to Malmesbury Town Council at St Aldhelm’s Mead on Saturday.

Malmesbury mayor Julie Exton opened the free picnic.

The challenge of the event was to bring a single use plastic free picnic, which the group say was not easy with plastic so widely used to wrap foods.

But luckily, visitors to the event were up for the challenge.

They also enjoyed various ‘green’ games, including ‘the turtle in the plastic maze’, jellyfish roulette and the ‘can I recycle this?’ challenge.

Perhaps the most popular activity was the ‘smoothie bike’ run by Rethink Rubbish – delicious fruit smoothies created by pedal power.
