Malmesbury town centre changes shown in old pictures

Malmesbury is packed with historic buildings that seem to have changed little over the centuries.

But these images from our archives show that even in the Queen of Hilltop Towns time has moved on in the last 40 years.

There is the Abbey House, once home to nuns of the community of St Andrew, then famous as the home of the Naked Gardeners Barbara and Ian Pollard and now in the hands of Texan hoteliers Whit and Kim Hanks, who have an ancestral link to the town.

The centrepiece Market Cross has changed little but the signs and the road markings surrounding it have been updated through the decades.
