A man was arrested for being three times over the drink drive limit – after he was stopped for tailgating a police car.

Wiltshire’s specialist operations team said the man blew 119 at the roadside, more than three times the legal limit of 35 migrogrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath. Taken to the police station, he blew 98.

Traffic officers posted on Twitter: “He will be charged when he sobers up.”

Last month, Wiltshire Police joined a nationwide campaign aimed at tackling those driving under the influence of drugs or drink.

Sgt Will Ayres said officers had seen a rise in the number of people drug driving. He said: “I think it’s a change of culture. People may not drink so much but they will spend £10 or £20 on cannabis or cocaine of an evening.”
