Man charged with criminal damage after window of Stroud restaurant smashed

A man has been charged with criminal damage after a Stroud restaurant was vandalised last night.

Police were called to Union Street at 7.30pm on Wednesday (July 14) after a report that a pot had been thrown through the window of Birch.

Maxwell Henry Moore, 32, and of no fixed abode, was arrested. He has been charged with criminal damage and is due to appear at court on Monday, July 26.

Birch will be closed this weekend while repairs are made.

A post on the restaurant’s Facebook page said: “Due to the vandalism caused last night we’re unable to open at the weekend.

“There’s a lot of mess to clear up and the windows are being replaced next week.

“Apologies to those who need their caffeine hit and all the loyal market crew. We will be back next Saturday.”

The restaurant’s owner, Wesley Birch, has recently taken over the lease of the Ship Inn at Brimscombe. The pub opened last week following a revamp.
