A Cam man has been spared jail despite breaching his suspended sentence when he assaulted a woman in Stroud.

Kevin Phillips, 34, of High Street, Cam, was given a suspended sentence in August 2018 for possession of a knife and class B drugs.

He then breached this on April 19 this year when he assaulted a woman in Stroud and used threatening behaviour towards her and another man.

Phillips pleaded guilty at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on August 1.

The court found it would be ‘unjust’ to activate the suspended sentence as the defendant was making ‘good progress’ and the latests offences were unrelated to those the original sentence was given for.

In total an extra 120 hours of unpaid work were added.

The latest sentence is 26-weeks imprisonment suspended for 18 months.
