Map shows how much raw sewage in Stroud rivers

A MAP has been published which demonstrates where sewage is discharged into rivers across the UK.

This interactive map was compiled by The Rivers Trust and if you click on it you can see where exactly in Stroud and the surrounding areas this sewage is discharged.

The advice from the environmental charity is that you avoid entering the water immediately downstream of these overflows, and this is particularly after a period of rain.

The UK government last night announced a partial U-turn on the sewage bill after 22 Conservative MPs voted against the amendment in the House of Commons last week, including Stroud MP Siobhan Baillie.

Last week the Stroud MP gave a speech in the House of Commons where she said that the thought of having sewage in our rivers was ‘revolting.’

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs released a statement last night saying that: “the Environment Bill will be further strengthened with an amendment that will see a duty enshrined in law to ensure water companies secure a progressive reduction in the adverse impacts of discharges from storm overflows.”
