A navy chef from Minchinhampton has won Best of England’s Cotswolds and Gloucestershire Photography Competition with a summer snap of North Nibley.

When Josh Adamms enter the competition set up by the independent travel guide company, he thought his confirmation email might be the last he heard of it.

The self-described amateur photographer had no idea he would come out on top, with his picture printed in their brochure and a small cash prize.

Following seven years as a leading chef in the Royal Navy, Mr Adamms has worked in river maintenance and practiced photography as a hobby.

He said he likes to take pictures of interesting weather conditions, birds and nature.

Runners-up included pictures of Castle Combe in Wiltshire, Bliss Mill in Chipping Norton and Selsley common in Stroud.
