GLOUCESTERSHIRE Constabulary have welcomed their latest recruit – a 22 month old German Shepherd called Gunner.

Police dog Gunner has joined the force’s dog unit, where he will be working alongside experienced handler, PC Powles.

A force spokesman said: “PD Gunner has recently joined the team following the award of his licence to operate as a police dog.

He will be working alongside dog handler PC Powles and joined us after being owned by a security guard. Sadly Gunner was never tasked due to only weighing 22 kilos but he is now a much healthier weight thanks to PC Powles.

“He passed what is normally a 13 week course in just eight weeks so is a quick learner and described by PC Powles as a bit of a ‘live wire’.

“Gunner is a general purpose police dog but away from his official duties he relaxes with two retired police dogs who will be able to teach him a thing or two whilst he gets used to the role.”
