NHS workers has bike stolen outside Stroud hospital

A health worker had her bike stolen outside Stroud General Hospital.

Dawn Williams’s bicycle – a Hybrid Specialized bike – was bought using money left by her late mum who passed away in February 2016.

It was stolen yesterday (Thursday, November 3) from the bike shed outside Stroud Hospital between 7am and 4pm.

The thieves also took her waterproofs and the bike lock.

Stroud News and Journal:

Ms Williams – who is management team secretary at Stroud General Hospital where she has worked for 11 years – has been employed by the NHS for 30 years.

Stroud News and Journal:

“My mum was using her bike daily to commute from Stonehouse and back, come rain or shine,” said daughter Laura Williams.

“Many from the local area will know or recognise her, as she loved her bike and used it every day.

“Her bike means so much more to her than its monetary value.

Stroud News and Journal:

“It has great sentimental value, because it was bought using money left to Mum from my late Nan, who passed away in February 2016.

“Mum suffers with a longstanding medical condition and the stress this has caused has made her feel so much worse.

“Her bike was her motivation, on the bad days and good.

“Mum has been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown by so many in the local community.

“She would like to say a big thank you to everyone that has shared her post across social media.

“So many lovely people have offered to give her a bike to either keep or borrow so that she can continue riding to work and back each day.

“One lady even offered money, from her and her little girl’s savings pot, towards a new bike.

“This has made her feel very tearful to know there are such amazing people out there, that do care and mean well.

“She also told me that the police have been very sympathetic and are doing what they can to help track down her bike.

“They said that they are aware many bikes get stolen, but that people don’t often report this and that it’s always worth doing so.”
