NOSTALGIA: Dianna Rigg, Laurie Lee and MP Jeremy Thorpe visit Cirencester

Nowadays it seems that almost anyone can attain so called “celebrity” status without doing much more than appearing on a reality TV show, writes Robert Heaven.

The pictures taken half a century ago, are of celebrities who visited Cirencester; people who’s faces are still instantly recognisable to many.

These include recently deceased actress Dianna Rigg, Bob Monkhouse who opened the long gone Somerfield supermarket in Love Lane; MP Jeremy Thorpe in 1974, Cider with Rosy author Laurie Lee who signed books at the library in 1975 and Johnny Morris who opened Cranham Park estate.
