Peacocks in Russell Street, Stroud closes reaction

THE STROUD branch of Peacocks closed last week.

This followed mounting speculation that the fashion retailer was due to shut its store in Russell Street in the Stroud town centre.

In the weak leading up to the closure there had been a 70 per cent off ‘closing down sale’.

The nearest Peacocks store is now in Northgate Street, Gloucester with the outlet in Stroud now having emptied its shop floor.

As a result of this, we asked readers this morning on Facebook what they want to see in this vast space instead.

Stroud News and Journal:

Your comments

As can be seen above, 176 comments – at the time of writing this article – were submitted on our post this morning.

Primark and B&M are two of the outlets which SNJ readers most want to see as the new home of this space.

A majority of the comments were about these two places.

One of the most original and nicest comments was submitted by Laura Barlow Cobb, who said that it could be converted into housing for Ukrainian refugees.

Shaun Walker meanwhile suggested crazy golf.

Katie Taylor asked for either a Poundland, a B&M or a mini arcade centre for kids that are bored.

Chelsey Weaver asked for a cocktail bar

There is still appetite for more fast-food chains in Stroud, as Josh Gamble suggested a KFC and Craig Davis a Burger King.

Other shops

In terms of retail outlets, as well as Primark and B&M a few others were mentioned.

Helen Al Amily – Poundland

Kirsty Harris – New Look

Lee Marshall –  A clothing shop for men

Tom Tommy – Cash Converters or motorbike shop

Ellie Turner – M&S food
