A consultation is being held on plans to build a GP surgery in Tetbury as part of a new housing development.
Tetbury’s existing surgery is deemed no longer fit for purpose and the lease on its Long Street site is due to end in 2025. Phoenix Health Group have been on the lookout for a new surgery ever since they merged with Romney House Surgery in 2017, but until now have had problems finding a suitable site.
Together with Phoenix Health Group, Stonewood Partnerships Ltd are planning to build a new facility on land off Cirencester Road. The new building would increase capacity by 50 per cent and come with 52 dedicated parking spaces.
For those travelling by foot, an improved footpath connection to the Tetbury Trail would be delivered together with improved connections along Cirencester Road.
The development will also include 27 houses, 11 of which will be affordable.
A public consultation on the proposals is running until September 14. Plans are available to view at tetburyconsultation.co.uk.
A community drop-in event will be held at Tetbury Goods Shed from 3-7pm on Wednesday, September 7 where residents are invited to find out more and share feedback on the scheme.
James Petherick, from Stonewood Partnerships, said: “We are excited to be working in partnership with Phoenix Health Group to relocate Tetbury’s GP surgery and, to fund its timely delivery and meet local needs, deliver sustainably designed new homes, which would cut heating bills by up to 70 per cent compared to the industry standard.
“We are committed to delivering a positive scheme that builds on our legacy of high-quality developments locally, such as the popular ‘Orchard Field’ scheme in Cirencester.
“We look forward to hearing the community’s feedback on our plans as they evolve.”
Dr. Peter Hill, from Phoenix Health Group, said: “We have already expanded to make full use of our current town centre surgery and are unable to meet the growing needs of the community.
“Together with Stonewood Properties, we hope to bring forward this important development for Tetbury, which would secure long-term, quality healthcare for the community.”
