Detectives investigating a robbery in the Cirencester are asking people to come forward if they have any information or dashcam footage of the incident.

Yesterday, a man stole a car in the car wash area of the Tesco Extra store in Cricklade Road, after threatening a staff member at gunpoint.

The stolen car, a black Mercedes, was driven away and was involved in a crash at Kemble railway station where members of the public were threatened and the man made off again in a different car.

Following another crash on the A429 the man made off on foot but was arrested near to Kemble airfield.

A firearm, later identified as an air rifle, was recovered.

Police were called to the first scene at about 3.40pm and officers, including armed and other specialists, were deployed there and other locations as the incident unfolded.

At 4.20pm, officers arrested a 21-year-old man from Cirencester on suspicion of armed robbery.

He is currently in custody awaiting further questioning.

Acting inspector Garrett Gloyn, from the Cotswold Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “I recognise that many people will find this an alarming incident to have taken place in the Cotswolds, but thankfully it is extremely rare.

“I would like to thank all members of the public who called in with information yesterday, which helped us deploy a variety of officers and resources rapidly and the incident was contained.

“Many people were affected but the swift action ensured that no-one was seriously harmed and prevented even more people being involved.”

Anyone with information, especially those with dashcam footage, of any part of the incident is asked to call Gloucestershire Constabulary on 101 quoting incident 396 of July 2.
