A police officer was assaulted while dealing with a medical emergency in Cirencester.
The officer and a PCSO were on foot patrol in the town on Wednesday afternoon when they were informed of a seriously ill male who had collapsed.
While police were dealing with the man, a passer-by assaulted the officer, and was subsequently arrested.
The officer was not seriously injured in the attack.
Cirencester police constable Andy Baker said: “We would like to thank passing members of the public who came to assist us, a doctor from America, a local nurse and a St Johns Ambulance volunteer.
“Thankfully the male, although seriously ill at the time made a full recovery and was released from hospital the next day.
“Unfortunately while police were dealing with the male a passer-by assaulted an officer, and he was subsequently arrested.
“Luckily the officer was not seriously injured and most importantly it didn’t impede the casualty’s care.”
