The UhlSport Hellenic Premier Division club was recognised by the team’s local MP to receive the honour for the role the football club plays in providing over 300 people a place to play and enjoy their football.
As well as having three senior sides, of which the first team competes in the ninth tier of English football, the club provides football for youngsters from under-6s level to under-16s. It also boasts an ever growing girls football programme for 5 to 13 year olds and a veterans side.
Pete Webber, Thornbury Town chairman said: “Everyone at the club is delighted that we have been selected as Community Champions for the constituency. It is recognition for the fantastic work everyone has contributed now and throughout previous years at the club to provide a platform for girls, boys and senior players to enjoy their football in a fun and safe environment.
“It was a very proud moment to be recognised by our local MP and represent the club at 10 Downing Street. The prime minister praised everyone in our club for their work in the community and told us he was a Southampton supporter!
“We have some exciting plans to continue developing the club and will keep offering a great space for the local community to come and enjoy their football.”
