THE LANDLORD of a pub near Stroud is asking customers to pay with cash amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
Kevin Allin, landlord of the Carpenters Arms, Miserden, is asking customers to use cash so that he can try to keep the prices down.
“My proccesing fees for a month are around £550,” said Kevin.
“If customers start using cash again it will reduce my processing cost – it costs nothing to withdraw cash from your account and nothing gets deducted from the price you pay to us.
“The price of a meal in my pub already includes VAT at 20 per cent – that is the equivalent of £3 out of £15.
“If I then deduct the card fees and the cost to produce the end product the margins are very very small.
“The only way to cover these costs is to reduce them where possible or increase prices.
“I now pay everyone in cash.
“My electricity bill increased from £700 a month in April to a staggering £2450.
“The money has to come from somewhere.
“Trade is very good at the moment but alas the costs of running this buisness are eating all profits.
“Please use cash where you can.”
