Stagecoach to axe some bus services in Gloucestershire

STAGECOACH is to axe some bus services in Gloucestershire, the council has revealed.

It is believed that the affected services – which have not yet been announced – will be axed before the end of the year.

A cabinet member at Gloucestershire County Council has expressed his disappointment at the news, saying these cuts will affect some of the most vulnerable residents in the county.

“We are very disappointed that Stagecoach has given notice that it no longer wishes to run some bus services,” said Cllr Philip Robinson, cabinet member responsible for bus transport at Gloucestershire County Council.

“These cuts will affect some of the most vulnerable people in the county leaving them without basic transport services to get to work, medical appointments and generally go about their lives.

“We have written to the Traffic Commissioner to raise our concerns over poor service levels and the package of changes proposed by Stagecoach.

“We still hope to work with Stagecoach on finding suitable proposals for Gloucestershire.”

Stagecoach has been approached for comment.
