Gloucester man Ricky Andrews, 34, was wanted by Gloucestershire police on suspicion of intentional strangulation offences.
They issued an appeal to help find Andrews yesterday afternoon (February 23).
But hours later, police were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks near Gloucester railway station at around 9.30pm.
Although formal identification has not yet taken place, the man, understood to be the suspect, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin is aware.
The death is not being investigated as suspicious, according to British Transport Police, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
Gloucestershire police has since referred itself to the police watchdog – Independent Office of Police Conduct – due to prior contact before his death.
