AN EVENING reggae, roots, dubwise, dancehall, revival and steppas is set to take place at Stroud Brewery on Friday.
The Dub From Above crew of selectors and DJs will be playing out through the Acid Patch Sound System Sound System from 8pm to 11pm.
Entitled Dub In The Valley, the event was initially planned as a dance night, but it will now be a free seated event due to the delay in the lifting of restrictions.
There are no tickets to buy and tables of up to six people are available on a first come first served basis.
Dub From Above was formed at the end of 2017 by the Bristol based Beth and Tom (pictured here), plus Soom T, the Glaswegian MC and singer most well known for her work with Mungos Hi-Fi.
Tom said: “We met by chance and instantly connected over our shared love of roots reggae and dub.
“Soom had been touring extensively with her live band for the last few years and was eager to return to shows delivered in traditional sound system format, so we decided to work together using our knowledge of the Bristol Sound System scene and her links with musicians and artists to put on what we hoped would be some memorable events.
“We held out first dance in Bristol at the start of 2018, in a relatively small venue with a group of local DJs over two rooms getting the crowd ready for the headliners, Solo Banton and Soom T, all powered by the Sinai Sound System.
“Flash forward two years and we had organised nine dances including a whopping line up of over 40 plus artists including Iration Steppas, Top Cat, Bush Chemists, Kenny Knots, Charlie P, Brother Culture and many more for a three room road block session for Soom’s birthday.
“We also had the privilege with of working with the best local DJs and sound systems such as Jah Lokko’s, Numesa, Inner Echo, Dutchie, Dub Invasion, Lionpulse and Green King Cuts.
“We have relocated back to Cirencester during lockdown and would like to start putting on dances again now restrictions are easing up, to give the people and ourselves something to look forward to again.
“Luckily we have links in Stroud with the venue and Acid Patch Sound System who will be setting up for the first time on the night and playing alongside us.”
