Stroud murder probe: Police release name of victim

Police were called to the victim’s home in Chapel Street at around 4.15pm two weeks ago (Friday, November 4) after concerns were raised by a neighbour.

The victim has now been named as Emma Potter who was 40-years-old.

Her death was initially treated as being unexplained, but the results of a post-mortem examination led to a murder investigation being opened on Friday last week (November 14).

The body is believed to have been undiscovered for some time.

The Major Crime Investigation Team is still keen to hear from anyone who has any relevant information which could assist, in particular anyone who knew Emma.

A man has been charged with murder.

Joe Rankin, aged 33 of Langtoft Road, Stroud, was remanded in custody to appear at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court later today (Monday, November 14).

A man and a woman who had also been arrested on suspicion of murder were released without charge on Saturday evening (November 12) and face no further action.
