Two boys find ‘hand grenade’ in Cirencester

Police were called to a Cirencester estate at the weekend after children found a suspected hand grenade.

The Corinium Via estate was cordoned off on Saturday afternoon after a bomb disposal team attended the scene.

It came after two boys discovered what is believed to have been a grenade within some tree roots near Parry Close, a road off Forstall Way.

Cars were briefly prevented from accessing the estate while police made the area safe.

Mayor of Cirencester Claire Bloomer said in a Facebook post on Saturday evening: “The device has been safely disposed of.

“Many thanks to our local police officers and the bomb disposal team.

“The estate is now safe and residents are free to return.”

A statement from Gloucestershire Police said: “On Saturday (2 October) cordons were put in place after two boys in Cirencester discovered what was believed to be a grenade within some tree roots.
