Two teenagers arrested on suspicion of arson after Stratton Education Centre goes up in flames

Two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of arson after Stratton Education Centre went up in flames yesterday.

The huge blaze at the former school on St Philips Road was first reported to the fire service and police at 4.30pm yesterday. Firefighters were still there are 7pm last night.

It’s not yet known how the fire started and inquiries continue.

The youths, 15 and 16, are from the local area and have now been released under investigation.

A large part of the roof of the school building has been destroyed.

At least six fire crews were called to the scene to tackle the flames, including appliances from neighbouring Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire

Police officers managed the road closures on St Philips Road, Orchard Road, Clays Close and Greenland Road, escorting residents to and from their houses.
