The owner of Italian restaurant Amalfi, in Nailsworth, is confident Italy will beat England in the final of the Euros on Sunday – proclaiming ‘we’re gonna smash you’.
Mario Selmani, who opened the Market Street eatery in 2017, will be closing early on Sunday so he and his staff can watch what he expects will be an Italian win.
Born in the Italian captial, Mario is an AC Milan fan and while he admits they are ‘not very good at the moment’, has every faith that the national side will fair better at Wembley.
“It’s not coming home it’s going Rome.” he declared.
Speaking about England he added: “They have looked solid but still we are going to smash them.
“We love football. It’s in our blood.”
Mario has predicted either 2-0 or 2-1 to Italy, with Lorenzo Insigne and Ciro Immobile to get on the scoresheet – and possibly Raheem Sterling too.
“What’s important is we are going to win, he said.
Despite his confidence in the result, there is one thing Mario is worried about.
“Our only concern is after we win it won’t be busy as people will hold grudges,” he said.
